That would be a nice feeling! I keep a lot of my old emails in my inbox. Yes, it does get crowded.

It takes a few seconds sometimes for my inbox to load, but it's not really a big deal.

It does, although not for Livejournal comment notifications, of course.
But still, looking through thousands and thousands of e-Mails with little arrows by them until I scrolled to the end would take a while.
It seems easier to respond to them and move them to my Saved folder.
